3 big reasons to travel solo!

Well, this is really what my blog is all about! Solo travel and the inspiration to do it! I think it's an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime as it is enriching and rewarding. So from my own personal experience here are 3 big reasons why you should consider trying it!

1. It will constantly remind you of just how capable you are!

It is undoubtedly a challenge and requires bravery to just get yourself out there. But once you master the fear of being on your own, you realise you can do pretty much anything you want without hanging around for companionship or moral support. You can get on a plane and go anywhere in the world. And while you are doing it, you are given this constant, very rewarding reminder that you are capable just the way you are! And by knowing you are capable you gain confidence! Confidence is something so many of us struggle with in life and isn't something you can buy, you have to build it and find it from within, so if travelling solo can give you a head start in this, why not try it at least once!

2. Doing things on your own terms

It really is YOUR trip when you travel alone. Get up when you want, go where you want, do the things that interest you, choose who you share your time with. Once you have travelled solo you may even find it a big adaptation to go back to travelling with others. Doing things on your own terms cannot be taken for granted. That's not to say you should do everything absolutely alone. It is a balance. Planning a day trip with another traveller now and again or booking the group tours with itineraries when you want that company and structure, is ideal.

3. Solo travellers tend to find it easier to meet people

This is a hard one to articulate but I found it to be true. Perhaps simply the being on my own, somehow made me more approachable. Or perhaps others also who have travelled solo identify and are more open to making friendships or seeking company. Or, perhaps everyone who is travelling and in that 'travel vibe' are just more spontaneous and open to meeting new people. I can't really put my finger on exactly why it is but I've mentioned the saying before, "Solo but never alone". It's just really special. I never knew who I might be having dinner with the next day, but more often than not you would have wonderful company.

It was much more difficult to make friendships when I travelled as a couple, perhaps just because of the fact you have each other so don't need to embrace new friendships in the same way and I think the same may apply to friends travelling in groups, although in general, I also met very friendly couples and groups too.

So in a short and sweet final note- find the mojo to go solo! It's worth it!

Happy Travelling
